Only Fools and Horses icon Nicholas Lyndhurst is reportedly retiring from acting following the death of his son, Archie.

The actor, 60, lost his son in September 2020 to a brain tumour.

Archie was 19-years-old when he died, after which dad Nicholas stayed out of the limelight.

Writer and close friend of the actor, Laurence Marks, has suggested that his pal of 20 years won’t return to acting after the tragedy.

Speaking to the Daily Star Sunday, he said: ‘Nicholas underwent tragedy. It must have broken his heart. It would break anyone’s heart.

‘He has always kept himself to himself and now he’ll do that more than ever.’

He added: ‘Now he’s lost his son, he’ll never come out again. I doubt we will see him do any more acting.’

Nicholas is most famous for his portrayal of Rodney Trotter in the sitcom, and has also acted in other sitcoms including Goodnight Sweetheart, Going Straight, Butterflies and After You’ve Gone.

CBBC actor Archie died in his sleep from a brain haemorrhage caused by a rare cancer.

Alongside a series of family photos of Archie from baby to young man and throughout this childhood, she wrote on Instagram: ‘Today, 4th October, will always be the best day of our lives. The day you arrived and completed us.

‘Every adventure has been amazing and utterly joyous, we can never thank you enough for the tremendous ride.’

She continued: ‘Today is your 21st birthday. A day we’d talked about for years and the plans you had for it. I wish more than anything your story and adventures could have continued.’

Lucy added that Archie ‘deserved so much more’ and she will ‘never understand why,’ but their love for him ‘still grows as it always did.’

‘The pain of not seeing you every day or hearing your voice and your laughter is absolutely agonising. We think about you night and day. You are the best son anyone could wish for. A parents dream.

‘I always said you were only on loan to us. I just didn’t realise how short a time we had. You didn’t waste a second though. You charmed so many peoples [sic] lives, they are the lucky ones who got to know you.’

She concluded by telling their ‘darling boy’ that they love him ‘beyond measure and hope you like what we are doing to honour you.’
