30-acre Wildfire in Rural Burnet County 90% Contained

BURNET COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — Crews responded to a wildfire in Burnet County Friday afternoon. The Texas Department of Transportation is asking residents to avoid the area.

TxDOT said there was a wildfire reported at RM 963 and CR 210B near Bertram just before 3:30 p.m. The department said it was helping with traffic control.

Why is it so smoky in Austin on Friday?

Burnet County Emergency Management Coordinator Jim Barho said the fire started as a rekindling from an earlier fire. It spread quickly because of the winds, growing from five acres to around 30.

It’s now 90% contained. There’s no damage, and no evacuations have been issued, he said.

Check back for updates.
